Therapy
Change is not a straight line, and there is no single model that works for all people. Change requires support and tools to build awareness, tolerance, healthy coping strategies, and understanding of choices.
Therapeutic Interventions
I use a variety of therapeutic interventions based on the client's goals and symptoms.
Mindfulness Practices
Mindfulness is the practice of being present. When the mind and body settle into a state of awareness, we observe ourselves and our surroundings without judgment and with compassion. This practice has nourishing effects on our well-being.
AEDP
Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) has four pillars: faith in the client's capacity to heal, the power of being seen and understood, working through defenses, and discovering a newfound ability to trust.
Brainspotting
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other difficult symptoms.
Creative Therapies
We can incorporate visual art, writing, storytelling, movement, and/or music, which can deepen and transform the healing experience. Creativity engages the senses and allow clients to release expectations about the outcome and focus on the process.
Spirituality
Integrating spirituality can support clients to reclaim wholeness, shed limiting beliefs, reconnect to inner knowing, soften into presence, and reshape patterned ways of being.
Self Compassion
Self-compassion is the practice of being kind and understanding towards yourself. It involves recognizing that you're not alone in your suffering, being kind to yourself, recognizing that pain is a normal part of the human experience, and practicing being aware of your thoughts, emotions, and actions without judgment.

My
Approach
My approach is collaborative, interactive, and centered in curiosity. I want to know you better. You are the expert of your own experience. I'm here to guide you and help you get unstuck.

I incorporate body-based, non-verbal communication in my work. Sometimes, a gesture, breath, or your tone of voice exposes the core of your difficulties more genuinely than words. We will talk about your past as a reference point to your present-moment challenges.

Engaging with mindful practices helps to unwind the emotional attachment to past experiences, allowing opportunity for clarity and choice. Present-moment awareness exists at the core of my personal and counseling practice. Having spent the first half of my life as a reactive perfectionist, I understand the challenges associated with learning to become responsive. I practice and teach self-compassion.
I view the common symptoms of stress and trauma as a function of an overwhelmed nervous system that has forgotten how to achieve balance. We achieve symptom resolution and greater self-awareness by developing daily coping skills to help stabilize the system, alongside arts-based interventions and parts work to develop an embodied sense of self.

Client Testimonial
"Jody made me feel safe, seen, and cared for the moment I walked in her office for a consultation. I had bad experiences with therapists prior to her, so I was very anxious. That all melted away quickly. I could be considered a complex case, and no matter what comes up in session Jody has a tool, soothing words, or homework that is truly transformative (and never feels off the mark). We’ve been working together weekly for several months and I have never left a session without feeling stronger, lighter, and more healed than when I came in. Her energy is so warm, you feel truly held in her presence. She has an incredible sense of humor and her perspectives are fresh and always feel impactful. Not only has she enabled and supported my mental and emotional healing, she’s gently suggested lifestyle changes that have begun to heal lifelong health issues that I had no hope for. I cannot recommend Jody enough, especially if you’ve struggled with therapy in the past. She is truly the whole package, and I learn something new and wonderful about her skillset and her as a person each session. We are so lucky to have such a radiant, incredible human providing therapy!" --LS
